What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who offers physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Unlike a midwife or OB, I don’t provide medical care—but I walk beside you to help you feel supported, informed, and cared for every step of the way.
How is a doula different from a midwife or OB?
A midwife or OB manages your medical care and makes clinical decisions. A doula focuses on your comfort, emotions, and experience—offering tools, guidance, and calm presence prenatally, throughout labor, and postpartum.
Do I need a doula if I already have a supportive partner?
Yes! A doula supports both of you. I help your partner feel more confident and prepared, and together we create a strong team to support you. You don’t have to choose between one or the other—we work together.
What types of births do you support?
I support all birth settings—hospital, birth center, or home. Whether you plan an unmedicated birth, use pain medication, or need a c-section, I provide nonjudgmental, all accepting support for the birth you choose.
Do I need a doula if I’m just going to get an epidural as soon as I can?
There is still so much I can do to support you—with or without an epidural (or other pain medication). Believe it or not, a lot of labor happens before an epidural is available, and during that time I’ll work with you and your partner to help you relax and cope, so your body and mind are ready for birth.
Once your epidural is placed, I’ll continue to support you with positioning (which can be tricky when you’re numbed up), helping to open the pelvis and encourage baby’s descent. Doulas are a valuable part of the birth team, whether your birth is unmedicated or medicated.
When should I hire a doula?
Most families book during the second trimester, but it’s never too early or too late. The earlier we connect, the more time we have to build trust and prepare for your unique journey.
What areas do you serve?
I am based out of Waconia, Minnesota, and serve families in the western Twin Cities area, including Waconia, Chaska, Chanhassen, Belle Plain, Bloomington, Buffalo, Carver, Cologne, Delano, Eden Prairie, Edina, Glencoe, Hamburg, Hutchinson, Jordan, Lester Prairie, Mayer, Minnetonka, Minnetrista, Montrose, Mound, New Germany, Norwood Young America, Plymouth, Prior Lake, Shakopee, St. Bonifacious, Victoria, Watertown.
Can we meet before booking?
Of course! I want to meet with you so we can talk about your birth hopes, see if we’re a good fit, and answer any questions you may have.
Do you support high-risk pregnancies or c-sections?
Absolutely. I've personally experienced high-risk pregnancies, including preeclampsia, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and placenta previa-and I've had both a C-section and VBACs myself. Whether you're facing medical complications, planning a C-section, or hoping for a VBAC, I can support you through all the unknowns.
Do you provide support for a miscarriage or stillbirth?
Yes, I do. Loss in any form—whether early or late, expected or sudden—is still a birth. I offer emotional and physical support during miscarriage or stillbirth at any gestation.
This might include helping you understand your options, supporting you through the process, assisting with memory-making, and simply being present. My bereavement care is always tailored to what you need.
Do you provide support for pregnancy after loss?
Yes. I've walked the path of pregnancy after loss myself, and I know the weight it can carry. The mix of grief, hope, anxiety, and love is something I've felt in my own body and heart. That lived experience is part of what led me to this work.
I understand how vulnerable a PAL (Pregnancy After Loss) journey can be. You don't have to explain your emotions or justify your fears-I get it. My support is grounded in compassion, experience, and a deep respect for every step of your story. You are not alone, and you are never too much.
Is your doula care faith-based?
Yes, gently and respectfully. While I support all families, my care is rooted in my faith in Jesus. I bring prayerful support when desired, and always lead with love and grace.
